Near Shady Wall A Rose Once Grew Poem Verses
Near shady wall a rose once grew
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear of pride,
It followed the light through the crevices length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new
Breathing its fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint or fail,
Nay, let us faith and hope receive,
The rose still grows beyond the wall
Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in the days of yore
Just as it did on the other side
Just as it will forever more.
Budded and blossomed in God's free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear of pride,
It followed the light through the crevices length
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before,
And it lost itself in beauties new
Breathing its fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve
And make our courage faint or fail,
Nay, let us faith and hope receive,
The rose still grows beyond the wall
Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in the days of yore
Just as it did on the other side
Just as it will forever more.

About the poem
The poem is about the resilience and beauty of life, even in the face of death. The speaker describes a rose that grew near a shady wall, nourished by God's free light and morning dew. The rose encounters a crevice in the wall, through which a beam of light shines. The rose follows the light and grows through the crevice, unfolding itself on the other side, where it continues to thrive and spread its fragrance. The poem suggests that the rose's journey is a metaphor for life's journey, where we must follow the light and overcome obstacles to continue to grow and flourish. The poem encourages the reader to have faith and hope in the face of death, and to recognize that life continues beyond the wall. Just as the rose continues to grow and spread its fragrance on the other side, so too does life continue beyond death. Ultimately, the poem celebrates the beauty of life and encourages the reader to have courage and faith in the face of life's challenges.
